13 Crucial Questions For 2017's Biggest Video Games

1. Will It Live Up To The Previous Games? - Shenmue III

The Question: With 15 years having passed since the release of Shenmue II, will this belated (and highly anticipated) Kickstarted sequel manage to capture the same magic and level of acclaim? Or will it end up as a mediocre curio that again proves how skittish crowd-funded games can be?

The Likely Answer: This is a tough one, but it's simply possible that no game could live up to 15 years of hope and expectations, considering the cliffhanger Shenmue II ended on and how long players have been waiting to get revenge on Lan Di.

Plus, the game's budget has been a major question mark for fans, which will no doubt dictate both how lavish the final version looks, and how extensively the gameplay moves on from the previous titles.

Recent high-profile Kickstarter failures like Mighty No. 9 probably make it best to err on the side of caution and expect a decent RPG that nevertheless doesn't match the absurdly-budgeted AAA thrills of the first two games. We all want to be wrong, and next year, we find out once and for all.
