13 More Horror Themed Video Games To Play On Halloween
5. Haunting Ground

Also known as Demento, and for good reason, Haunting Ground is an unsung hero in the world of survival horror gaming. Brought to you by Capcom and the very same creators as Clock Tower 3, Haunting Ground features a gameplay mechanic that literally feels like an exercise in survival. Unlike video games such as Resident Evil in which your characters can load up on guns and ammunition, the lovely Fiona of Haunting Ground has nothing more than her wits and a friendly white Shepherd to ensure her survival.
The story of Haunting Ground is quite odd - the character of Fiona is in a car accident and wakes up naked in a cage with little to no memory of what has happened. Eventually befriending the white German Shepherd, Hewie, Fiona seeks a way off the castle grounds, and faces off against three different villains who want to harm her for their own purposes. Debilitas is a large mentally unstable man who thinks Fiona is a doll. Daniela cannot experience taste or touch - and therefore pleasure - and is jealous of Fiona's ability to engage in sexual intercourse. Riccardo seeks Fiona's "Azoth" - an unseen, alchemical formula that exists within her. Upon defeating Riccardo the player will learn of Fiona's origin as well as that of the crazed killers and their creator will become the new enemy.
The player must run and hide from the insane enemies while using the environment to eventually engage in combat. Like many of the games on our list the spooky ambiance is what makes the game perfect to play on Halloween. It's as if you're trapped in an Argento film. The sexual motif of the game also lends to the creepy feel. What makes the game so unsettling is playing as a young, sexualized female on the run from a child-like man who wants to "play with her", a demented, sexually frustrated maid, and perverted men who seek to steal the girl's "innocence." Haunting Ground is the perfect game to play on Halloween.
