13 Video Game Characters You Didn't Realise Were Based On Real People

9. Dr. Eggman/Robotnik - Teddy Roosevelt

You don't get US presidents like old Teddy any more. America's first president of the 20th century, Roosevelt was a cowboy, a war hero, and an intrepid explorer of the Amazon. The guy was such a formidable character, that his face sits not-so-pretty on Mt. Rushmore, alongside Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington. So what does this old-school Great Man have in common with rotund Sonic villain, Dr, Robotnik? Well, he had a pretty bad way with animals for a start, killing an estimated 11,400 animals - including 512 big game - on a hunting trip in central Africa. While Roosevelt would stuff animals, Robotnik would turn them into slave robots that carried out his bidding. But it was probably not Sega's intention for people to draw such morbid parallels between the two big guys. Instead, Sega was more interested in the physical resemblance between the two - such as the round spectacles, prominent moustache and portly figure.
