9. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Of all the games within the Legend of Zelda series none fits this list better than Majora's Mask. The story follows our hero Link as he is transported to an alternate world called Termina. The player must face a sense of impending doom as the moon threatens to crash into this land and seek the possessed Skull Kid to save the world and return to Hyrule. The entire motif of this game screams Halloween fun. The player must make use of owl statues to save their progress. Link uses various masks to gain new abilities and further the plot. The main antagonist, Skull Kid, is a masked trickster akin to the legend of Jack-o-lantern. The imagery is as beautiful as any installment of the Zelda series, but is thematically darker and perfect to get into a Halloween mood. The melancholy music and sombreness of the tragic characters only add to this theme, and the grinning, suicidal monstrosity of a moon pushing ever closer toward Clock Town will have you on your toes. There's more reason to play than just the enveloping darkness, however. Majora's Mask is incredibly fun and a classic you should be enjoying any time of the year.
