One of the biggest technical issues with CoD's multiplayer is the peer-to-peer matchmaking, which can result in troublesome lag at the best of times (if, say, the host's little sister is streaming Justin Bieber music videos on YouTube), and frequent disconnections at the worst of times. Dedicated servers are an obvious way to get around this, and the earlier PC CoD games smartly made great use of them, presenting players with a server list, allowing them to locate a server to their liking and, crucially, play whatever map they wanted to. However, even the PC versions have only intermittently supported dedicated servers, and though Actvision have promised dedicated servers to be patched in for AW at a later date, it's probably best not to expect it to actually show up. Given how outdated peer-to-peer multiplayer is, Activision need to just throw down some cash and have the infrastructure ready for the next CoD game.
