The most synonymous line throughout the whole trilogy. You see "the past is a gaping hole" and immediately you just know it's spoken from the mouth of one moody Max Payne. It stinks of hard-boiled noir.
This is a quote that seems to take Max's real-life experiences into account; he's looked into the grave of his love, he's most likely kissed the mouth of a gun, probably of his own volition too. It's like a window into Max's mind, to see how he sees things.
It's all dark with that glimmer of light buried at the back, fighting its way out.
