14 Incredible Video Games Still To Come In 2014

7. Lords Of The Fallen

Release date: 28th October (NA) 31st (EU) Sometimes even though theres a particularly wave-making franchise that fans will always swear the original of which is better than anything else, those that take the core mechanics within and fix the smaller problems the original designers leave behind can usher in something just as valid. Which is a fairly complex way of saying Lords of the Fallen is pretty much 90% Dark Souls, except where the 'Souls series has built a legacy on being unrelentingly and aggressively annoying, Lords seeks to drop a few more fairly obvious gameplay tweaks to improve the core formula for newcomers and veterans alike. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K423anCBKKo To be honest as someone who's completed the Souls games, the most common thing you hear from others is that they "tried it a couple of times, and gave up" due to a barrier for entry that resides somewhere on a neighbouring planet. LotF actually has a comprehensive story, an in-depth tutorial, more forgiving checkpoints, bonuses to your weapons if you happen to keep dying repeatedly and a general difficulty that is entirely focussed on being fair - rather than killing you for the sake of it to establish tone. It's shamelessly similar to FromSoft's series initially, but if you're looking for a next-gen Dark Souls with some much-needed tweaks to an already solid formula, Lords looks set to impress.
