MetaCritic Score: 79-84 What It Deserved: 70 Frictional Games' long-awaited follow-up to Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a solidly enjoyable, atmospheric sci-fi horror game, though those expecting something on the nerve-shreddingly intense level of Amnesia may find themselves a tad underwhelmed Yes, the mood is there and the game certainly looks great, but Soma is also undone somewhat by its irksome pacing (vague mission objectives will often make fairly mundane tasks last longer than they need to) and the fact that it's just not very scary: the enemies don't instill that same sense of fear and anxiety that made Amnesia such a tough experience. The narrative is an ambitious step up, but the execution settles for being good rather than great, sadly.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
