13. Narcos: Rise Of The Cartels

Between Narcos and Terminator: Resistance, we're starting to see the return of licensed console tie-ins to ongoing properties. However, while Terminator at least makes the most of console hardware, Narcos: Rise of the Cartels feels like it should've been a free mobile game.

Looking to ape the addictive nature of XCOM or something more narrative-heavy like 2018's excellent Mutant: Year Zero, sadly Narcos takes the name, theme song and clips from its television originator, but none of the intensity and throughline pace.

A.I. is dumb as rocks, you can clear entire levels with one character (as you only move one of your team at a time, per turn), and story-wise it feels like you're just chewing through encounter after encounter.

I'm glad non-mobile tie-ins are coming back, but this is a flimsy stepping stone, rather than the final destination.
