15 Batman Arkham Series Elements That Would Make Future Films Great
8. Media Personalities
If Batman was a real entity in our celebrity-obsessed world, he would inevitably be the subject of innumerable YouTube videos, as well as television panels and internet commentaries by the likes of Perez Hilton that speculate on his motives and identity.
In minor capacities, the Arkham series has brought to two Batman media personalities to life. The first, Jack Ryder, has been depicted as the sort of integrity-less journalist willing to twist truths in order to garner ratings and readership, making himself the hero of his rescue from Deadshot at Batman's hands in Arkham City. Though in the comics, he leads a double life as the garishly-coloured Creeper, this was left out of the game series, lest it veer too much into ridiculousness (which is saying something given the inclusion of characters such as Killer Croc and Man-Bat).
The second is Vicki Vale, known predominantly as one of the primary love interests of Batman's civilian identity Bruce Wayne and portrayed as such in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film, where she was played by Kim Basinger.
Television series The Wire built upon its original premise by extending its focus on law enforcement and criminals to encompass politics, the education system and journalism, becoming much deeper and multi-faceted in the process. Future Batman film writers could follow this formula to greatly enhance the substance of their creations.
