15 Best Easter Eggs, References & Secrets In Pokémon History

10. References To Classic Movies - Various

There are many, many references to classic movies in Pokémon games. In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, there are two different references depending on whether you€™re playing as a boy or a girl. If you€™re playing a boy, the TV at the beginning of the game will say, €œThere€™s a movie on TV. Four boys are walking on railroad tracks€, which is a reference to the 1987 movie, Stand by Me. If you€™re playing as a girl, the TV will say, "A girl in pigtails is walking down a yellow brick road€ - a reference to the 1939 classic, the Wizard of Oz. In Pokémon Gold and Silver, the TV will say €œStars dot the sky as two boys ride on a train€, which is a reference to the 1983 movie, The Outsiders. Similarly, in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, the TV will say €œTwo men are dancing on a big piano keyboard, which is of course a reference to the 1988 movie, Big. Finally, in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, there€™s a direct reference to The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. In Pacifidlog Town, an old man in the southwestern most house will say, €œThey say, here in Hoenn, there are places called Mirage Spots. One does not simply walk into a Mirage Spot€. Boromir would be so proud.
