2. Parasite Eve 2

Resident Evil 3 Nemesis
Square Enix

Whilst the first one favoured a more tactical RPG/Vagrant Story approach to battling, the sequel saw a more direct comparison to Resident Evil (as well as a much more welcome European release).

Cleverly blending a light sense of RPG into its battle system, because this was Squaresoft riding high on the Final Fantasy train, it made battle more a tactical situation than "shoot the thing until they fall down". Various weapons and ammunition types were available, as well as different armours and items to aid in defence and the rewards available in the environment.

One new element that separated it from the Capcom contemporary though: the use of protagonist Aya Brea's powers. Continuing the first game's story themes of mitochondrial manipulation, and the scientific endeavours gone wrong, Aya had a strong arsenal of offensive and defensive powers to turn the tide of battle.

There's an amazing story too, completing a graphically impressive game. It would be nice to see more of Parasite Eve, but nothing has really been announced since the underwhelming performance of the PSP exclusive PE 3rd Birthday.
