15 Best Video Games Of 2020 (So Far)
5. Ori & The Will Of The Wisps
In danger of being totally overlooked thanks to being an Xbox One exclusive (in a time where Sony's exclusive library draws more people to their platform instead), Ori's sequel is utterly breathtaking in every way.
Not only is it a stunning visual achievement in hand-drawn art and hyper-detailed environments, but gameplay is a fluid blend of tight 2D platforming and punchy melee combat. Your abilities are now mapped to dedicated face buttons, but can be unlocked and swapped around depending on playstyle.
The story is another open-ended tale of Ori searching for missing friends in an imposing environment, but their quest to punctuate so much darkness with light gets reflected in every facet of the presentation.
Oh, and the emotionally uplifting soundtrack is exactly what we all need right now.
Taking all the lessons learned from Blind Forest and adding a focus on up-front attacks, gone is the distant acrobatic feel of combat, and in is a sword-swiping, multi missile-locking barrage.
Seriously, with some of the best platforming in the business, Metroidvania exploration and refined combat, Will of the Wisps flies for the duration of its 10 hour runtime.
