4. Half-Life: Alyx
Get Half-Life: Alyx on consoles, maintain its functionality and we wouldn't even be talking about "whether VR is the future of gaming".
It's already here.
Taking everything Valve have been experimenting with in the VR space - the various tech demos, 2016's The Lab etc - Alyx rolls them together to create a seamless out-of-body virtual reality experience.
You'll reach for parts of the environment to steady yourself, improvise inside combat scenarios using real-world instincts, or spend hours picking up and manipulating every inch of the environment.
All of this though, it just setting the table.
The real seven-course feast is seeing a veteran team of developers return to their biggest franchise.
Half-Life fans have been waiting for more instalments in this fiction for over a decade, and whilst Alyx can only plug in prequel segments alongside one HELL of a tease for the future, it's still more than enough to get your heart racing.
Sadly, Half-Life: Alyx's sales were eclipsed by those who watched it unfold on Youtube or Twitch, but going forward, expect Valve's low-key masterpiece to only garner more praise.
