6. Destiny Erases Peter Dinklage, Lets Slip The Game's Money-Grabbing Ways
Although it's kind of accepted that most big name publishers see their consumers as nothing but walking money bags, no one ever talks about this disrespectful relationship out loud - no one except for Bungie anyway. In the run up to the release of the upcoming Taken King expansion pack, an interview with the Creative Director Luke Smith started to discuss in-game emotes that were locked away in a limited edition version of the title - and promptly put his foot directly in his mouth. The emotes in question, left out of the base DLC and only included in a re-release of the main game plus the expansions, were essentially unavailable to the die-hard players who had been picking up the extra content as it released. The Community Head's response was at first as vague and non-committal as you'd expect, that is, until he was pushed by the interviewer to give a little more of an emotionally-charged reply. In the end, the Bungie representative told the interviewer fans would be willing to "
Throw money at the screen" for the chance to get these inconsequential emotes, essentially admitting that the developers were willing to bleed their most committed consumers dry. Then there's the fact Peter Dinklage's very poorly-received voiceover sessions in the original game are being completely gutted and replaced with Uncharted's Nolan North for the upcoming Taken King expansion. Why? Assumedly as a direct response to the furore around Dinklage's original performance. Nolan was brought in to provide voices for the new content, and Bungie reportedly liked him so much, that they sought to completely rework their original 'vision' for the character of Ghost, patching North into your game, regardless of whether you buy the new content or not.
