15 Bold Predictions For 2018's Biggest Video Games
2. Transference Is The Year's Best VR Game
The Prediction: The Elijah Wood-produced VR psychological horror game Transference is going to be the big virtual reality hit of 2018.
Why It Will Happen: Of all the VR games shown off at E3, Transference was arguably the most intriguing, a game-film hybrid that invites players to "enter the home of the mind", and will be available for all major VR platforms next spring.
Hands-on impressions from Gamescom have suggested that it's one of the more cerebral VR games to date, and if it skirts around the VR's most irritating cliches (spiders flying in your face, for one), it could be a major credit to the nascent medium.
Why It Might Not: VR games do tend to be hit-and-miss, and this could easily end up an ambitious failure that doesn't quite hit the mark. Or perhaps a AAA game unexpectedly gets the full, Resident Evil 7-esque VR treatment and completely blows it out of the water.
With AAA VR development clearly ramping up in recent months, there's plenty of time for Transference to get outdone, even if it's as awesome as it looks right now.
