Reverting back to it's platformer origins, the game had the familiar look, sound and feel to the original carnations of the Mega Man games. Just a little harder. With the old retro feel of the title comes old retro difficulty alongside, punishing players with it's increasingly difficult boss battles and insane amount of reflexes and/or finger work required. Capcom even made a statement after release saying Mega Man 9 was developed for hardcore gamers, and it wasn't for the lighthearted, or even the easily frustrated, for that matter. While digging back to it's roots, Capcom created one crazy-difficult platform game, that became an instant hit with Mega Man fans... providing they don't mind dying a lot.
