15 Crucial Questions For 2018's Biggest Video Games
6. Will It End On A Cliffhanger? - Shenmue III
The Question: Will Yu Suzuki dare to end the long-awaited Shenmue sequel on yet another cliffhanger as Ryu continues to seek out the villainous Lan Di, or will the game actually bring Ryu some sort of closure?
The Likely Answer: Suzuki has stated that he would ideally make four or five games to complete his original vision of the story, though it's also incredibly likely that this vision has changed somewhat over the years, especially as there will be immense fan outrage if Shenmue III doesn't further Ryu's story in a significant way.
The smartest and most probable solution to this conundrum is to have Ryu battle Lan Di at the end of Shenmue III, and either have Ryu lose ahead of a re-match in Shenmue IV, or have Lan Di be defeated, before revealing that there's yet another antagonist behind him.
The game will inevitably have to bring some sort of cathartic closure to Ryu's story in case Suzuki doesn't get to make a fourth game, but he'll 100% be leaving the door wide open for more adventures.
