10. Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV may have gotten off to a rocky start (and that's putting it lightly) when it launched to scorn and near-universal negativity in 2010, but Square Enix miraculously managed to salvage whatever reputation the name had by way of a relaunch under new management and an apt new moniker: A Realm Reborn.
The indirect successor to Final Fantasy XI has gone from strength to strength ever since it rose from the ashes, and although many of the game's systems borrow heavily from Blizzard's trendsetting World of Warcraft, there's just enough Final Fantasy magic sprinkled on top to make it feel like its own beast.
For any series fans, exploring the world of Eorzea is a must (references and fan service are around every corner), but even if you don't count yourself as such, you'll be hard pushed to find an MMO as engrossing as this one.
