15 Games That MUST Be On The PlayStation Classic
9. PaRappa The Rapper
PaRappa wasn't quite gaming's first rhythm-action game - that accolade lies with the NES' mat-based Dance Aerobics - but it was the first to feature an anthropomorphic onion. Perhaps more importantly, it was the first to gain any widespread traction - establishing every single genre convention in the process.
As with Crash's shoe-shine, PaRappa's restoration last year highlighted the risks of popping those nostalgia nodules. The inherent problem with being the first of anything, is that all the subsequent coat-tail surfers improve upon the formula. And they did - PaRappa's sequel Um Jammer Lammy included. The fact doesn't make Sony's beat-bopper any less important though, and as an historical artefact, it's inclusion is mandatory. Besides which, variety is the spice of life - and nothing adds spice quite like chopped onion.
