15 Hilarious Voice Acting Fails In Horror Video Games
7. Deep Fear
Deep Fear was Sega's attempt at cashing in with the success of the Resident Evil series. Released for the Sega Saturn, it differentiated itself from the competition by setting itself underwater complete with an oxygen mechanic. Despite the unique location, however, the game featured terrible voice acting which was par for the course.
This is best seen in the character of Dubois who is supposedly French yet comes across as an offensive caricature instead. His voice actor speaks in an effeminate manner and gives the most ridiculous accent ever put on a video game.
It doesn't help that whoever doing the voice is clearly not French as heard in the line 'This is terrible, my masterpiece is ruined. Oh, what are we going to do?'. Whether the developers' intentions were noble or not, Dubois just ends up looking like a harmful stereotype of a gay Frenchman.
Unlike Resident Evil, Deep Fear failed to make an impact and was ultimately a shallow mess. If there's one thing it shared with it though, it's that both games had unintentional comedy in their acting.
