4. The English Voice Acting Is Terrible, Because It Was Added Last Minute

It may have gone on to become one of the most endearing qualities of that fateful original, but the story goes that Resident Evil was all set to ship to the West... with Japanese voice acting.

At the zero hour, the developers decided this just wouldn't work, and brought in a ragtag group of no-name actors to overdub a chunk of godawful lines over the top of the animation. Due to the lack of time and sheer budgetary restraints of such a thing, the actors were only given minimal direction, and only two takes to get each line right.

As a result, what you hear is the 'better' of the two takes. It must have been a long day in the office.
