9. Grim Fandango
Choice Quote: "You can't hide from the Grim Reaper. Especially when he's got a gun!" - Manny Calavera Announced as getting its own remake hopefully at some point this year, the PS4-bound Grim Fandango originally launched in 1998 and proved to the whole world that point n' click adventure games could work in 3D, as well as showcasing Tim Schafer's talents as one of the most creatively-minded guys in the business. The overall story is the sort of thing you'd find in only the best alternative comics, as playable character Manuel Calavera is stuck as a travel agent in the afterlife, working his job as a means to attaining final rest. He can't afford the train directly to the Ninth Underworld due to his actions in the real world, and thus is forced into a mundane job until further notice. Often referred to as Schafer's best work it's also one of his earliest, and although later titles prove he would lose any of the wit that made him a cult icon, back in the day he was proving himself and his team. Crafting a great little tale of double-crossings and corporate corruption where as Manny uncovers the differing powers that affect his life on the other side, the real heart of the story is through his forming of a bond with one of his clients Mercedes 'Meche' Colomar along the way.
