15 Most Terrifying Moments In Non-Horror Video Games
Perfecting the element of surprise.
People assume horror is best left to the horror games, but really, it shouldn't be.
Sometimes, horror is much more effective in surroundings that initiated a safer, action-packed experience to wrap a player in, like a safety bubble. Then the horror comes along, pops it and ushers in the stark reality of a new situation.
Other genres make you feel safe, it's the equilibrium that was set, but you shouldn't trust it, as any game's developers always have the drop on you. The following fifteen moments from these fifteen games prove so, keeping you on your toes, prepared for anything.
It may not be Jason, NEMESIS or even Pyramid Head, but at times like these, you've got no time or focus to make comparisons.
There really are a lot of good horror-style moments in non-horror video games, so let us know your own favourites in the comments below!
15. Atlanteans - Tomb Raider
I feel like in a game called Tomb Raider, we should have seen a weird level like this coming, yet meeting these so-called Atlanteans was a truly bizarre moment.
The whole level was bizarre: an underground Sphinx, invisible platforms, skinless pterodactyls, horsemen and even Lara's doppelganger, who was distracting for a whole other reason.
The level was recreated in Tomb Raider: Anniversary, but I feel the old design choices and graphics of the PS1 original made everything feel a hell of a lot more uncomfortable, the freaky designs plucking away at the fear string in our bodies.
It's not how I imagined Atlantis would look like, and to be honest it seems more like the Devil's summer home.
