The bane of many a Call of Duty fan (seriously, check Reddit), the multiplayer modes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and 3 added a rewards scheme for players who hadn't mastered the knack of staying alive- deathstreaks.

In contrast to the already established killstreaks, deathstreaks granted additional boons to players who had been killed several times in a row without managing to get a tag themselves.

Some of these had previously been controversial class perks in preceding games, such as martyrdom (dropping a grenade upon death), or "last stand" mode allowing the player to whip out a pistol and attempt to take down their killer before bleeding out.

Modern Warfare 3 took things further, strapping explosives to players or increasing their bullet damage. Essentially, by dying several times consecutively, a player would become theoretically more formidable the longer the streak continued.

On paper, this was no longer a fair fight, and that pesky grenade or C4 may well put pay to an unsuspecting assailant's own killstreak- cue a lot of angry screaming and cursing over a microphone.

I'm perfectly sane, or so the voices tell me. British, sarcastic, president of the European Slinky Association, have a tendency to lie when listing things about myself. 100% guilty of being a massive geek obsessed with Doctor Who, Harry Potter and video games. If you can't find me on the internet, I'm probably locked in a room playing Spyro the Dragon on my old PlayStation, or blowing everything to smithereens with a concrete donkey on Worms: Armageddon.
