16 Biggest Video Game Plot Twists Of The Decade (So Far)

6. There Is No Pilot - The Fall

A hidden gem from last year if ever there was one, indie dev Over The Moon's first game in what will eventually be a trilogy knocked it right out the park, only to lap a few nearby planets and return the shot all over again. The Fall is absolutely encapsulating as both its initial concept, the execution and finally the head-knocker of a final twist that makes you wish both Steam and the console storefronts would promote these kinds of titles more. Gameplay-wise it's hardly as mechanically tight as something like Shadow Complex or The Swapper, but it's the narrative that'll keep you hooked. See, the whole game has you playing as an A.I. controlling a combat suit, your pilot having just fallen from space and who is now unconscious. Following this, the majority of the game is spent trying to get your systems back online - the endgame being to rescue the hapless human within. Except he's not human - there is no such thing, you're just an A.I. trained to think you're protecting one, making for all manner of discussions around the various bits of dialogue that address the world and an eery sensation come the close of the game when your suit has just had its head blown off and you're left wondering exactly what the hell is going on until it all clicks back into place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gji-J3xdWpk
