12. Everyone Dies, Shao Kahn Wins, Fatality - Mortal Kombat (2011)
This is getting an entry as even though the 'plot twist' is right at the start of the campaign, it's a total doozy that got developers NetherRealm out of a tight spot when it came to their story at the close of MK: Apocalypse (that is to say, everyone looked to be roadkill). Instead, future Raiden essentially pulls a Days of Future Past/Ultron-style manoeuvre and transports his consciousness (or enough of it to make some decisions anyway) back into his younger body, essentially letting the developer 'reboot' their older levels and character designs whilst telling a story that was rooted in looking forward. It was a genius move, as not only did fights and cutscenes all blend into one to provide a brilliant pace throughout, but you got to see all the older, originally 2D-designed fighters brought up to scratch. How MK X's plot is going to top that is the question every fan is looking to be answered come April. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7ZFxfb-j7Y
