11. The Boss Is An A.I. - Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Part of devoting so much time and effort to making sure a portable MGS could stand toe to toe with the big boy console versions was also to write a suitably ridiculous story alongside, and thankfully creator Hideo Kojima didn't skimp out. As any who have played MGS 3: Snake Eater can attest, The Boss is a brilliant character who's ramifications in the lore set many pivotal things in motion, not to mention her death scene being one of the most moving in gaming history. So it was a bit strange then - to the player and Snake himself - to hear her talking again on a recording at the start of sequel, Peace Walker. This eventually turns out to be nothing more than a very elaborately programmed A.I., custom-built to replicate The Boss' mind in order to delve further into the motivations she had for defecting during MGS 3. The whackiest part comes when the A.I. (essentially The Boss mk.2) gains sentience of some sort thanks to being imbued with the same patriotic tendencies of its subject (just go with it), and ends up drowning itself whilst playing The Carpenter's "Sing" to prevent further destruction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha_TEbgxhAQ And they say Metal Gear has gotten too crazy for its own good.
