16 Most Disappointing Video Games Of 2017

9. Call Of Duty: WWII

A "return to form"? Or the complete admittance that Activision haven't the foggiest what to do with Call of Duty anymore?

I'm going with the latter, as the more you play WWII, the more you realise it's a re-skin, rather than a fan request-fulfilling reimagining of the franchise.

A solid enough shooter at its core, 2017's COD falls apart under even the most immediate level of analysis. Its campaign is one of the most rote and generic stories we've seen in quite some time - from the opening D-Day landing (that somehow manages to be more boring in its 4K glory than Medal of Honor: Frontline back in 2001) to the basic "Storm X place!" objectives.

Multiplayer fares far worse, with a pioneering Headquarters social space that at time of writing still isn't online, alongside more crippling problems like bad spawn placement giving campers the edge and weapon balance changing on a day to day basis.

COD WWII certainly gave the fans what they wanted, but again, playing for any length of time only highlights how much Call of Duty and Activision are spinning their wheels, struggling to find an appropriate direction for the series' future.
