16 Things We Learned From Gamescom 2015

3. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 Is Now Cel-Shaded

When Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 was shown off extensively over E3, there was much criticism over the game's graphical style which was, to be kind, rather rudimentary. To be unkind, it looked like a F2P game or something you'd expect to see on previous-generation platforms, not a new title launching for both the previous gen and the current gen. With less than two months to go until the game's release, Robomodo have decided to change the game's art style to cel-shaded, surely in an attempt to paper over the fact that the visuals just don't look that great. Sure, cel shading makes it easier for the developer to say "it doesn't look bad, it's an artistic choice", but it's nevertheless an incredibly transparent effort, if admittedly something of an improvement over how it looked before. Needless to say, expectations aren't high for this one, especially as the stiff animation likely hasn't been altered as well.
