4. MGS V's Mother Base Is Even Bigger Than We Thought
In addition to dropping a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Konami revealed yet another half-hour of gameplay footage, focused largely on exploring the massive HQ expanse that is Big Boss' Mother Base. While previous gameplay footage largely suggested that MB would be a single platform, it's made clear here that the player can expand it into a number of massive, inter-connected structures as the game progresses. In addition to performing Research and Development to extend the base and fultoning soldiers during missions to recruit them, you can shower off post-mission blood on the base, take part in target practice missions and change the base's colour. The demo also looked at the revolutionary Forward Operating Base system, whereby players can attempt to invade other players' bases online, earning huge rewards for kidnapping VIPs and so on, while the other player has to fend off an attack and try to secure their base as best possible. Thankfully, for those who don't care for the element of surprise, it's totally optional. Oh, and in case you weren't aware yet, it was confirmed during Gamescom that stealth camouflage is available from the R&D department, though using it during a mission limits the player to securing an A rank rather than the top S rank. With so little time to go before release, could the hype for this jaw-droppingly ambitious game be any higher?
