13. Scalebound Looks A Lot Like Final Fantasy XV...With Dragons
PlatinumGames first announced Scalebound at last year's E3, and Gamescom saw the first gameplay reveal, which again emphasised how cringe-worthy protagonist Drew is (wearing Beats headphones as he heads into battle), but also showed off how much the game, from a visual perspective mostly, appears to resemble Final Fantasy XV...but with dragons. The short gameplay clip showed off the team dynamic between Drew and his pet dragon Thuban, while also revealing that Drew appears to be at least part-dragon himself, with a his arm transforming into a scaly, dragon-like texture. Whether the game will allow Drew to become a full dragon or not remains to be seen, but it seems too delicious a concept to completely ignore (perhaps later in the game?) The action certainly looks frenetically entertaining (especially when Drew transforms into his dragon form): it just remains to be seen whether there's a compelling story to boot, whether Platinum can make it as an RPG developer, and whether audiences can tolerate a protagonist who, frankly, seems kinda annoying.
