17 Secret Video Game Bosses You Need To Beat Before You Die

1. Mortal Kombat - Reptile

How you get there: In order to fight Reptile, there's some pretty specific things you need to do. First of all, you need to win a match in any single player match with a double flawless victory while not blocking at all. That's hard enough on its own, but then you need to factor in that you also need to finish a match with a fatality and be playing on the 'Pit' stage.

However, you'll also need a good dollop of luck too, as there needs to be a silhouette of what looks like Santa Claus (yes, really) gliding past the moon in the background in your attempt, otherwise the green-clad ninja won't show up. The appearance of Father Christmas is entirely random though, so you could be trying for a while.

Why you need to beat them: To witness history, of course. Reptile's appearance as a secret boss in the original Mortal Kombat marks the very first time that a fighting game has had a hidden fighter to pursue. Unlike his subsequent appearances in future MK games, this incarnation of Reptile is essentially just a result of merging Scorpion and Sub-Zero together in both looks and moveset.

Reptile has no acid spit or invisibility in his initial incarnation, instead, he just pikeys the harpoon and and freeze balls from his two progenitors. Just make sure you don't lose; there's no retry option.
