12. "Can't You Just Play Along?"

Batman has enough people trying to kill him on Christmas Eve without having to worry about solving a particularly vicious murder committed by a madman calling himself 'The Joker'.

But the Dark Knight's never been one for loose ends, and after following up on the information he's uncovered regarding the Joker's whereabouts in Gotham, he tracks him down to Gotham Merchants Bank. However, when Batman arrives in the midst of a robbery, he's confronted by Black Mask who orders his men to bring out a hooded figure. And as Black Mask removes the hood from the hostage's head, we realize that we haven't been watching Roman Sionis the whole time - the Joker was under the mask all along.

Before we can even recover from this little switcheroo, the Ace Of Knaves beats Roman Sionis into a bloody pulp, and shoots Batman before hopping onto an escape vehicle and blowing the vault to kingdom come. We were all waiting for the Clown Prince Of Crime's grand entrance, and boy did he leave a mark.

Though it's certainly easy to understand why some fans have grown tired of the Joker's antics over the years (especially when they come at the expense of the other rogues), it's moments like this that make it all worth it.
