If you've not played FF VII back when it was a life-changing, childhood-defining experience then you'll literally struggle to care about why people can love such a downright ugly game - but if you are one of those people, seeing it get teased for real at E3 this year was extraordinary. The dealings around how Square are actually putting this together seem to get weirder and shadier as time goes on (it's now an episodic release with action-heavy combat), but you can't deny the tone of that first trailer. Having an voiceover talk about how "they" are "coming back", just as you recognised Cloud's armour and sword walking through the crowd... man, we gamers can buy into the hype in a way that only results in disappointment, but the flipside is a childlike glee that no other medium can even come close to, and here it was out in full force.
