11. Sony Somehow Save Kratos' Entire Character

One of those "Didn't even know you wanted it, 'til it happened"-type deals, I was certainly checked out of God of War and Kratos combined. The angry Spartan was as one-dimensional as they come, with a dumbass backstory implying he 'accidentally'... killed his entire family.

Anyway, going forward, Sony Santa Monica have revamped the series' core traits to be more in line with The Last of Us or Naughty Dog's recent output, also making combat a bit more like Dark Souls in the process. The best part is that this matured approach also reframes Kratos' past exploits as exactly what they were: Stupid, over-the-top, rage-filled explosions of pure reactionary anarchism.

Now he's an older man looking to make a life as he plays surrogate father to a young boy. The moment he attempts to make a physical bond with said boy - before refraining - tells you everything you need to know about where this new version is heading.
