6. Ratchet & Clank
The third-person platformer is making a comeback - at least, I sure hope it is, because if Ratchet & Clank is anything to go by, we're in for one hell of a treat.
Launched alongside a tie-in movie that sadly didn't do very well with audiences or critics, the game component is Insomniac firing on all cylinders. Animation is sublime, the frame rate perfected as the studio have remade their 2002 original in every respect. A simple hold of the left trigger transforms gameplay from standard platforming to an over-shoulder shooter, and therein lies the brilliance of its simplicity.
Ratchet plays better than you expect, proving not only that Insomniac are one of the most talented studios around, but that this genre is truly immortal when done right.
