10. Halo 3
It took two years for Microsoft's biggest series to finally arrive on the Xbox 360 but when it finally launched, Halo 3 proved to be well worth the wait. Pledging to finally finish Master Chief's story (following the anti-climax of Halo 2's ending), Halo 3 carried on where the previous game left off with awe-inspiring environments, tight, engaging gunplay and a great mix of gun battles and vehicle combat on a large scale. The campaign (fully playable in four player co-op) is full of great moments, such as when Chief is tasked with defeating two giant, hulking Scarabs - the scale of battles like this is almost unparalleled in gaming. Halo 3 is a very well-rounded package too with an extensive, highly addictive multiplayer mode and the brand new Forge mode which gave players a chance to customise and create their own maps using a variety of tools. It's a game that really inspires the creative juices, before igniting them online. Master Chief's story might not have actually ended here (343 Industries picked it back up in Halo 4 after Microsoft acquired the Halo license from Bungie) but Halo 3 feels like a satisfying close to a gaming icon's story. Replaying it in the upcoming Master Chief Collection is going to be a joy.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
