18 Greatest Video Games Of The PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 Generation
9. Batman: Arkham City
Let's face it - at some point in our lives, we've all wished we were a bit more like Batman. Rocksteady somehow heard these wishes and made the ultimate Caped Crusader simulator - Batman: Arkham City. Batman's lack of weapons might have made him a hard character to build a video game around but Rocksteady put the focus on hand-to-hand combat from the get-go; it's one of the more satisfying experiences to be found in gaming. Batman often goes up against multiple enemies at a time and with some simple (but effective) tricks, like a dodge roll and a counter-attack, he can pound an entire group of thugs in seconds. This is aided by some wonderful sound effects; you feel every bone cracking as Batman unleashes blows. There's also a decent range of gadgets at Batman's disposal too, which more advanced players can work into their combos to aid them; it's all very cleverly done. On top of that, there's some great stealth elements; a nice, open sub-section of Gotham to glide through; and a series of memorable boss fights that almost act as puzzles in some scenarios - the Mr. Freeze fight is a particular highlight. It's a game full of content too; there's a variety of side-quests featuring little known Batman foes like Hush and Mad Hatter, purposely designed to please Batfans of all ages. Wearing virtual spandex has never looked so good.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
