This list could feature tens of Super Mario Bros. sound effects, but the 1-Up sound is clearly one of the most memorable and iconic. Tied to Mario collecting a green mushroom, the tiny little jingle captures the feeling of joy perfectly.
As with a lot of Nintendo sound effects, the 1-Up has been used in loads of Mario games since and the 1-Up mushroom can be seen on clothing, bags, and more. The image has become synonymous with the 8-bit and 16-bit eras, in part thanks the wonderful Mario games and partly down to that catchy tune.
