20 Amazing Video Games That Never Got Sequels
6. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
With the Nintendo Switch 2's launch lineup enduring a relatively mixed reaction from players, of course there's been renewed demand for numerous dormant Nintendo franchises, not least a sequel to the much-loved platformer Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.
Elevated by its charming visuals and novel puzzle concept, this was an absolute slam-dunk for Toad's many fans, and seemed to suggest another budding mini-franchise for Nintendo.
But even though the game has sold more than 3.5 million copies across its releases on Wii U, Switch, and 3DS and ranks among the best-selling games on both Wi U and Switch, there's no sign of a follow-up whatsoever.
It's hardly a new trick for Nintendo to leave money on the table with some of their head-scratching business decisions, but in this case it's most likely that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was always intended to be an experimental one-off title and Nintendo would rather devote their developmental resources to bolstering other franchises.
Never say never, but also don't get your hopes up for Treasure Tracker 2.
