20 Announced Video Games That Are NEVER Coming Out
6. The Longest Journey Home
The proposed sequel to 2000's The Longest Journey, this was supposed to be Red Thread Games' fourth installment in the Longest Journey saga. The fantasy RPG would have seen a return to the franchise's original point and click gameplay. With a Kickstarter goal of $2 million set and the game officially confirmed to Gamespot, things were gaining momentum.
Unfortunately, the stretch goal was never reached, effectively grounding the game even before it took off. In 2016, the man behind the game, Ragnar Tørnquist tweeted that the game may not happen, at least not for a long time. He went on clarify that although he and the people at Red Thread Games would love nothing more than to complete this story, there were simply too many problems to contend with.
Still it did not completely die. In 2022, Tonrquist posted concept art from the game, along with additional details about its story and gameplay. Then last year, during a Discord Q&A organized by Red Thread Games, Tornquist suggested that there was discussions and more importantly hope around reviving the project. If we do ever end up playing this game, it would certainly have been, pun very much intended, a long journey home.
