20 Announced Video Games That Are NEVER Coming Out
19. BioShock 4
The BioShock series has been a staple of the immersive sim genre. Combining first-person shooter and RPG gameplay in psychologically charged plots made for a truly gripping experience for gamers. Unfortunately right now, the biggest mystery faced by the franchise is whether we are ever getting next installment in the series, BioShock 4.
Confirmed in 2019 and being developed by Cloud Chamber, the game generated plenty of excitement over how the series would push the boundaries of in-game storytelling in this next offering. Perhaps those expectations proved too difficult to satisfy as creative dissatisfaction and unhappiness with story elements led to the game failing an internal review. The outcome was brutal as 2K, the publisher behind the game, laid off scores of employees, including the studio head who was replaced by Rod Fergusson, formerly of Blizzard and best known for leading the Diablo series.
This meant the originally planned 2026 release was never viable. Since then there hasn't been much news, with all hints pointing to the game sinking deeper into development hell. This year, CEO of 2K's parent company Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick voiced his own disappointment regarding the game's struggles. While it's promising that bosses do still take the game seriously, it does mean we are nowhere near the end of the this tunnel.
