20 Announced Video Games That Are NEVER Coming Out

18. The Last Night

The Last Night
Odd Tales

The cinematic platform game being developed by Odd Tales was meant to deliver a 2.5D cyberpunk experience that blended platform mechanics with good storytelling. But after ten plus years since its announcement, its biggest antagonist has been the development process.

Officially revealed at the E3 conference in 2017, though work on the game was confirmed by its director as early as 2014, its development journey was a bit of a nightmare from the get-go. Before any financial or technical hurdles, it was director Tim Soret's resurfaced tweets that kicked up a storm. The statements in question were from 2014 and included anti-feminist rhetoric and support for the hateful Gamergate movement of that year. Eventually after a fair bit of damage control from Soret and the game's publisher Raw Fury, development continued.

The next spanner came in 2018 when Soret revealed significant financial and legal problems had stunted progress and that the initially hinted release date for that same year was no longer possible. Raw Fury would eventually exit the project, leaving Odd Tales to self-publish. The last real update came in 2021, once again from Soret, who reassured that despite the manifold issues, the game was most definitely not cancelled. Only time can tell if this pixel art cyberpunk offering will ever reach us.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
