4. Grand Theft Auto IV
Grand Theft Auto is one of the great series of gaming and Rockstar continued their success with another brilliant addition to the franchise. Niko represented the immigrant chasing the American Dream. Despite the length of the game the story rarely sags and the final decision the one between money and revenge and the closing cutscene demonstrates that the dream sometimes comes at a price not worth paying. So many classic games have ended with the player winning against all the odds including some of the previous GTA titles but with this game Rockstar went with something a little different. As with any Rockstar title there are a host of memorable characters and they did a fantastic job of bringing their version of New York to life NPCs reacting to you and a city that feels alive. So many sandbox games feel like an empty playground but Liberty City felt the complete opposite. The city wouldnt be half as fun to explore without some entertaining missions and GTA IV certainly adds some classic quests to the collection. The bank robbery mission Four Leaf Clover will go down as one of the best GTA missions, if not one of the best sandbox missions, of all time. The escape through the subway system was excellent and it was reminiscent of so many great heist movies. And thats exactly what GTA IV does best it feels like a movie. The brilliant array of characters, the memorable missions and the living, breathing city make this Grand Theft Auto title the all-round sandbox game.
