20 Best Cutscenes In The Metal Gear Solid Franchise

7. Waking Up On The Torture Device - MGS

Most action movies follow a similar formula: the reluctant hero is dragged in to resolve an issue, the hero has some success, the hero is captured, the hero breaks free, hero saves the day. Metal Gear Solid does little to deviate from that formula.

After taking out Sniper Wolf, Snake is ambushed by the genome soldiers and knocked out. When he wakes up, he is facing bright hospital lights and strapped to a bizarre machine (seen earlier holding the dead body of the real DARPA Chief). With computers whirring, and his adversaries discussing their ill intentions, Snake is naked and out of sorts.

The disorientation felt by Snake is palpable as his captors discuss plans of their attack and other not-yet-known revelations in front of Snake without addressing him. Furthermore, Liquid Snake keeps referring to Solid as ‘brother,’ at which point in the game, their relation is undisclosed.

The cutscene acts as a homage by Hideo Kojima. While it is based on action movie cliché, it is acted so well by James Flinders and Patric Zimmerman and remains a masterpiece of a cutscene.
