There are few better examples of perfect timing in video games than Ring Fit Adventure releasing near the end of 2019, mere months before most of the world would be forced to shelter in place amid the global pandemic.

People couldn't get to gyms, and so as they turned to home workout solutions, Nintendo's exercise-premised RPG became a hot commodity, enough that copies ended up selling for hundreds of dollars on sites like eBay.

Ring Fit Adventure so ingeniously mastered the act of gamifying exercise, of taking potentially mundane physical activity and filtering it through the prism of a dopamine-delivering RPG.

Getting a sweat on while battling bosses was a hugely novel concept, and that the game was also a genuinely fun genre offering its own right proved a hugely pleasant surprise - all the more so for a game few had on their radar pre-release.

The game's general accessibility combined with its incredibly inspired use of both the Joy-Cons and its bespoke Ring-Con peripheral ensured Ring Fit Adventure arrived at just the time when everyone needed it most, and it'll never be forgotten.
