20 Best Open-World Video Games Of All Time

5. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Its story might be more ridiculous than, well, Metal Gear Solid 2, but MGS V easily features the best gameplay the series has ever seen.

By building on everything Peace Walker already set in motion when it comes to amassing a small army of soldiers, scouting potential recruits and deploying on a number of tactile missions in quick succession, Hideo Kojima changed the very nature of what MGS 'is', and made it insanely addictive in the process.

The sheer graphical wallop The Phantom Pain belts out is enough to warrant hopping in a vehicle and exploring to your heart's content, but it's the number of dynamic and hand-crafted missions you'll undertake along the way that really make it stand out about the rest.
