20 Best Video Game Reveals From E3 2018

9. Gears Of War 5

Though Gears 5 wasn't the only new game in the franchise announced at Microsoft's conference, it's not a stretch to say that it was far more noteworthy than a Funko Pop mobile tie-in and a turn-based strategy prequel. In fact, the sequel's reveal was surprisingly substantial considering the previous instalment hit shelves less than two years ago, with the devs showing off not only gameplay, but a huge chunk of the actual story.

Likewise it introduced Gears 5's new playable protagonist, Kate Diaz. Perhaps realising that J.D. Fenix probably isn't the most interesting hero to sell a whole game on the back of (despite his lineage), it seems as though the next title is actually going to be split between two perspectives: Kait's team roaming Sera (including good ol' Marcus Fenix), and J.D. holding down the fort back at home.

Although both Gears and Halo were handed over to new caretakers once their original developers jumped ship, it's only the former that's really managed to prosper, earning some goodwill that the fifth game will no doubt be eager to capitalise on.
