7. Bloodborne

For a certain sect of gamers, Dark Souls and Bloodborne (anything birthed from the genius mind of Hidetaka Miyazaki, really) is a creation of pure, unmatched beauty. And while Bloodborne stays a little too much within its confines of being moulded in the shape of the Souls series, it's still one hell of an experience. As Miyazaki is a very well read individual, the story of Bloodborne is one you'll slowly uncover through all manner of environmental cues, item descriptions and character dialogue. Whilst knowing your purpose and what's truly going on within the world does reframe everything within, it's the act of discovery and fighting through this Lovecraftian nightmare that'll become one of your greatest achievements. You'll remember the personal grind you undertook to level up and beat a particularly taxing (and suitably disgusting-looking) boss. You'll remember cashing in a chunk of Blood Echoes to finally afford a spear that doubles as a rifle - and you'll remember the gothic architecture dripping with atmosphere and the remnants of a long-forgotten society, the deliciously macabre art direction reinforcing every step.
